Child Slowly Transforming Into Stone, Rare Skin Condition Hardens His Body and Twists His Limbs

11-year-old Ramesh, from Baglung, Nepal is slowly transforming into stone after a rare skin disease hardened most parts of his body, also twisting his limbs in the process. Just a few weeks after his birth, his skin started to peel off and harden. Today, he could no longer speak or walk after the rare condition has literally ‘frozen’ him.

His mother, Nanda, stated: “His skin began peeling off 15 days after he was born and then new skin began to grow very thick.

“It hardened and turned black, we had no idea what to do about it. No one helped us.

“He is only able to inform us when he’s hungry or wants to use the toilet. He used to sit and cry but we did not know how to help him.

Ramesh’s family were incapable of affording medical care on Nanda's 7,000 rupees (£44) a month salary.

Thankfully, he has found fresh hope thanks to the help from British singer Joss Stone, who has raised much-needed funds for his medical treatment. He’s now receiving treatment at Kathmandu Medical Centre, where things are looking up for the youngster.
